Introduction (and stuff) *paperfl0wers*

New to both anime and the blogging world, but not to writing, I decided to start things off I will make an “about me” blog just to introduce myself to everyone. I’m sort of a private person when it comes to the internet, but I want to give you all some insight.

I’m in college, currently getting a liberal arts degree, but next fall I’m going to be an English major with a creative writing focus.

I love anything in the realm of speculative fiction. This includes books, movies, television, anime, comic books, manga, and writing. Also includes urban fantasy, epic fantasy, science fiction…well, you get the idea. Some specifics I love are The Mortal Instruments book series by Cassandra Clare, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Legend of Zelda video games, and Harry Potter.

Favorite anime: Code Geass and its sequel, R2. Death Note is a close runner up.

So what got me into anime? Good question. I always loved the artwork. Anime characters, even the “normal” ones, have such a magical, mystical appeal to them and I just think they are beautiful. As a kid I watched, you guessed it, Pokemon, and you, guessed it, Dragon Ball Z. Pokemon was my religion, the handbook I owned being my bible. After that phase finally passed I started watching Dragon Ball Z…and I was addicted. I hadn’t even realized at the time that those shows were anime, I was just a kid watching her favorite TV series.

My brother introduced me to Death Note a few years ago and I absolutely loved it but I never finished it because he mostly watched it on his own. Last summer I was thinking, what ever happened to that show Death Note? It was so good. So I went online and watched the entire series. There are few shows that captured me like Death Note did. I was so into it I went through withdrawal when I was finished; decided that Death Note couldn’t possibly be the only anime out there that was that good. After doing a little research (read: googled what anime shows are like Death Note?) I found that Code Geass is very similar. At first I was a little skeptical (“This isn’t Death Note!”) but after a point I was completely hooked. Code Geass is not only my favorite anime, but also one of the greatest shows I’ve ever watched in my life. I think it’s a masterpiece that deserves all the hype it gets.

And from then on it was just watching a lot of anime and reading manga. It’s a new hype but I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Why? A few good reasons:
A) Anime is famous for having an over abundance of science fiction/fantasy shows so I’ll never have a deficit.
B) Beautiful artwork.
C) Most series are short, only about 25 episodes, so they usually move very fast. Also, there’s not a lot of room for withdrawal when there’s usually a manga series, movies, side stories, and loads of other additions.

And there you have it! All you need to know about me for now :-)
